Real Responsibility, Not Done-For Care
An individualized independence roadmap for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, built with each client and their guardians in the Denver metro.
We don’t limit you because of your limitations.
Life skills training here means real responsibility, not everything done for someone in the name of care. We call it dignity of risk: letting someone try, even when it's hard to watch, because experiencing real choices and real consequences is part of how anyone builds confidence and independence.
An Individualized Independence Roadmap
We build a roadmap with each client and their guardians, setting goals together with clear timelines instead of vague intentions. That roadmap usually includes predictable routines, real choices, tasks broken into manageable steps, and hands-on practice with cooking, cleaning, home maintenance, and financial literacy like budgeting and spending decisions.
Every plan points toward something concrete: a job, an apartment, a car, more freedom to move through the community on your own terms. Self-advocacy, learning to express your own needs, wants, and rights, runs through all of it.
- Real responsibility, not done-for care
- Goals set together with the client and guardians, with clear timelines
- Cooking, cleaning, home maintenance, and financial literacy
- Steps toward a job, an apartment, or a car
Supported, Not Sheltered
Support staff hold a delicate balance: supervision appropriate to a person's abilities, alongside genuine room to try, fail, and try again. Asking for help gets framed as a normal, healthy part of life, not a weakness. There's no single template for independence; the starting point is always closely observing and talking with the individual and their caregivers about actual abilities and interests.
Building the Independence Roadmap
A clear process from a first conversation to concrete, ongoing progress.
Get to Know You
We start by observing and talking with the individual and their guardians about real abilities and interests, not a diagnosis on paper.
Set Goals Together
Concrete goals and timelines set with the client and guardians together, never handed down as a fixed plan.
Practice & Progress
Ongoing, hands-on practice with real responsibility, checked in on and adjusted as goals evolve.
Life Skills Training, Answered Plainly
It means allowing a choice to be made even when it could lead to a disappointing outcome, because experiencing real consequences is part of how anyone learns and builds confidence. In practice, that looks like letting someone try a task on their own with support nearby, rather than doing it for them.
Together with the client and their guardians, starting from real observation of abilities and interests rather than a generic template. Goals get set with clear timelines, then adjusted as progress happens.
Predictable routines, real decision-making, cooking, cleaning, home maintenance, financial literacy, and self-advocacy, learning to express your own needs and rights. Every plan points toward something concrete like a job, an apartment, or a car.
